Abstract

Multi-stage compressors; regulating. - A multi - stage rotary compressor a has impellers with diameters increasing towards the pressure side and so arranged that when a small delivery only is required, one or more of the low pressure stages can be cut out. By this means the effective suction cross section is decreased and the pumping limit is lowered. The suction pipe b contains a tightly closing throttle c and the pipe below the throttle is connected to the pipe g of one of the intermediate coolers by the pipe h which includes a stop cock i. During normal working the cock i is closed and the throttle c is open; all the impellers are then in use. When working below the normal pumping limit the cock i is open and the throttle c is closed. The changes may be affected manually, or automatically in dependence upon the quantity flowing through the discharge pipe d.
