Abstract

346,837. Rotary pumps. REES, E., (Representative of REES, E. S. G.), Far Bentlands, Oaken, near Wolverhampton. Jan. 18, 1930, No. 1849. Addition to 324,905, [Class 110 (i), Centrifugal and screw fans &c.]. [Class 110 (i).] Starting, facilitating ; controlling.-A rotary pump, of the type described in the parent Specification, with an impeller provided with circumferential blades having the form of rotafoils, is rendered selfpriming by an arrangement of the suction and delivery pipes so that the pump is always filled with water. The impeller shaft M of the pump is driven by the motor N and the suction pipe I rises to the top of the chamber B. Pipes A, C connect the inlet chamber B to the discharge chamber D. The byepass thus formed may always be open, but so restricted, that only a small portion of the liquid passes through it. In the form shown in the drawing the byepass is controlled by a valve E which is shut during the normal operation of the pump. It is opened manually, by means of the handle F, or automatically, when the delivery pressure reaches a predetermined value; the operating piston G is subject on one side to the pressure in the suction pipe and on the other to the delivery pressure and when the pressure drops after operation of the piston, the spring K restores the parts to their original position. A pipe L is connected to the highest point on the suction side and to a point of strong suction on the pump so that any air may be carried through with the water. The water discharges from the pump into an expanding pipe O opening into a chamber D thus forming an annular expanding passage O<1>.
