Abstract

Casing; controlling.- To prevent the formation of air loclis in a centrifugal pump due to the liberation of air at the point of lowest pressure, a pipe g or other duct or channel is provided leading from a point of higher pressure to the suction eye of the impeller, or, in the case of a multistage pump, to the eye of the first-stage impeller c; the exit nozzle h or other exits from the pipe are so arranged that the discharge therefrom is parallel with the direction of flow of the liquid entering the eye. Two or more nozzles, equally spaced round the eye of the impeller, may be provided on the pipe g. In place of the hand-operated valve k an automatic valve may be provided to open the pipe g when the delivery pressure falls.
