Abstract
315,310. Soc. du Carburateur Zenith. July 11, 1928, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-Fuel for accelerating is supplied by a device operated by the suction in the admission conduit, and adapted, when the throttle is closed, to store up potential energy, the device giving out its energy and causing the injection of fuel when the suction is suddenly reduced through opening of the throttle valve. As shown in Fig. 1, a piston 1 is provided in a chamber 2 connected through a conduit 6 with the admission conduit 7 and through a conduit 3 with the upper part of a fuel well 4. Fuel from the float chamber 11 is supplied to the nozzle 8 and to the well 4 through a calibrated orifice 5. When the throttle 9 is closed, the piston is lifted by suction and closes the inlet to the conduit 6. When the throttle is suddenly opened, the piston falls causing pressure to be applied to the fuel in the well 4, In the form shown in Fig. 3, a diaphragm 20 is lifted by the suction against the action of a loading-spring 21, the return of the diaphragm when the suction falls forcing fuel from the well 4 to the nozzle 8. In a further modification, the diaphragm 20 is connected to a piston in a subsidiary fuel chamber supplying an auxiliary nozzle. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also a modification in which a chamber communicating with the float chamber and with an auxiliary nozzle situated in the choke tube is connected at the top to the admission conduit and is provided with a suction-actuated piston to the bottom of which is connected a second piston dipping into the fuel. When the throttle is opened, the two pistons fall and fuel is forced from the chamber through the auxiliary nozzle. It describes also a modification in which the diaphragm 20 is situated in a fuel chamber arranged below, and communicating with, the fuel conduit connecting the float-chamber and the nozzle. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
