Abstract
203,305. Verto Products Co., (Assignees of Stanton, W. F.). Sept. 2, 1922, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-A device for supplying supplementary mixture comprises a plate 30 adapted to be secured between the carburettor and manifold flanges, and provided with a fuel nozzle 39 and an air tube 36 carried by a spring-loaded piston 33, the underside of which is subjected to the suction in the induction manifold through a passage 35. Air is supplied to the tube 36 through flutings 45<1> in a dust-cap 45. At low suctions, the fuel supply is at its maximum, but the air supply is cut off since the air tube is pressed against the dustcap 45; as the suction increases, the piston is drawn inwards, and the supply of fuel decreases whilst the supply of air gradually increases, until at very high suctions the supply of fuel is entirely cut off. Fuel is supplied to the nozzle 39 through a tube 40 communicating with the usual carburettor drain, and air is supplied thereto through a passage 41 controlled by a suction-actuated ball valve 43. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a construction in which fuel from a float chamber 11, Fig. 1 (Cancelled), is supplied to the usual carburettor nozzle 13 and also, through pipes 140, 14, to a second nozzle 15. Opening into the pipe 14 is a passage 16 closed by a valve 21 on a piston 18 when the suction above the throttle is below a predetermined value. At higher suctions, the piston 18 is lifted by suction transmitted through a passage 20, air enters the pipe 14 through inlets 19 and the passage 16, and fuel flow through the nozzle 15 ceases. The valve 21 may be provided with a small hole 22 through which air enters when the valve is closed to emulsify the fuel. A metering device 23 may be provided in the pipe 14. In a modification of this construction, the valve 21 is in the form of a sleeve with an oblique lower edge which coacts with a sleeve projecting from the passage 16, and a spring acting on the piston 18 tends to close the valve. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
