Abstract

314,585. Carlson, A. March 31, 1928. Roasting-furnaces; charging.-Ore is supplied to a mechanical roasting-furnace through a preheater, in which it is brought into long and intimate contact with the gases escaping from the furnace and travelling in counter current to the ore. The preheater may consist of an inclinedrotary drum, a fixed horizontal drum with a rotary conveyer, or, as shown in Fig. 3, of a casing enclosing shelves c, mounted on an upward extension of the rabble arm b and co-operating with scrapers d. The uppermost hearth is fired by inclined burners delivering more or less tangentially into the chamber, and the gases are passed to the preheater through a central opening g.
