Abstract

176,836. Woodall, Duckham, & Jones 1920), Ltd., and Duckham, Sir A. M. Oct. 23, 1920. Tunnel kilns are made in the form of a complete annulus, the materials being carried on a travelling platform and heated bv contact with combustion products or burnt by a current of air passing over them. The materials are charged into and discharged from the kiln through gastight devices, those described in Specification 176,834 being conveniently used. The kiln comprises vertical walls a supported by girders d on piers e, the space between the inner girders d being closed by plates f. At equiangular distances the plates f are provided with depending pockets g which contain supporting rollers h. A rack l is driven by a pinion, which arrangement may be similar to that described in Specification 176,834. The material is supported on the brickwork platform k. Gas ports are situated opposite the chimney flue c, and air ports close to the discharging device. The material, which travels in the opposite direction to the gases, thus preheats the combustion air.
