Abstract

Resistance furnaces. -In an electric kiln the heating coils a hang freely on knife edge supports b of refractory materials, Figs. 1, 3, or are supported on knife edges k formed in duplicate on the fire bricks of the kiln, Fig. 5. In the former case the supports b are rods of triangular cross-section resting at their ends on projections c. In the latter case the coils are anchored by hooked rods l. In the preheating zone the coils are placed in recesses d. Pipes f lead from the entrance to a common chimney g. The roof of a portion of the cooling zone may be constructed of cast iron plates covered with pipes conveying air or water.
