Abstract
244,280. Lloyd, J. H., Walter, C. M., and Palser, J. Jan. 3, 1925. Metal-heating furnaces; muffle furnaces; charging and discharging; gases, supplying. - In a gas or electrically heated muffle furnace a, for the heat treatment of metals, of the kind in which the articles are heated in a non-oxidizing atmosphere and are discharged directly, through a liquidsealed extension k, into a quenching- bath m, the articles are charged through a door q in the upper wall of the extension k on to a tray n which is carried to the end of a rod o passing through a universal joint and packing gland p. The tray n is then pushed into the heating chamber and, on completion of the heat treatment, is withdrawn and inverted to scatter the articles in the bath m. Inert or carbonizing gas is supplied through pipes r, s, and a gas outlet t is provided adjacent the charging door q.
