Abstract
181,360. Thesen, A. June 6, 1921, [Convention date]. Resistance furnaces.-An electric ore-roasting oven has the resistance elements supported from a member in the oven independently of the lining or inner wall, this member being preferably an air or water cooled tube with the elements attached to arms projecting therefrom. The oven is enclosed in an air-tight manner in brickwork. The outside casing of the revolving furnace A, Fig. 1, supports a tube 4 having depending arms on which the resistances 5 are carried. The resistances comprise a wire 10 wound on a core 11, Fig. 3, enclosed in a porcelain or quartz tube 13 having a fireproof insulating lining 12, such for example, as magnesite dust and water glass. The oven is fed from a hopper 1 and the roasted ore is removed from a trough 2 by a conveyer 3. Air is supplied by a pipe 7 to which water or steam may also be admitted by a pipe 8. The oven is enclosed in an airtight brick casing B having an access door 9 and gas escape pipe 6.
