Abstract
313,616. Heberlein & Co. Akt.-Ges. June 15, 1928, [Convention date]. Yarns and threads, treating with liquids.- Yarns, &c. composed of vegetable fibres, are improved as regards their softness, resistance to wetting, and immunity towards substantive dyestuffs, by treatment with aqueous or alcoholic alkali lye and with a halide of higher fatty acid in the presence of an indifferent solvent, so as to produce partial esterification of the material. Halides of caprylic, capric, lauric, palmitic, stearic and oleic acids, or mixtures of such halides, may be employed. In examples, cotton cloth is treated with caustic soda lye, is pressed, and is then treated with a solution in carbon tetrachloride of oleic acid chloride or of the mixed chlorides obtained from stearin and thionyl chloride; cotton yarn, after treatment with alcoholic caustic soda lye, is immersed in a solution of stearic acid chloride in chloroform. Specification 201,510, 283,181, and 284,298, [all in Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], are referred to.
