Abstract

Yarns, threads, fabrics, and other textile materials are sized with carboxylic esters of cellulose or degraded cellulose containing ester radicles having as substituents carboxyl or hydroxyl groups, or both. The sizing is preferably done with aqueous solutions of the cellulose carboxylic esters capable of yielding films on evaporating the aqueous media. The yarn &c. may be treated in hank form, or may be passed continuously through the solutions and subsequently dried. Artificial filaments may be sized continuously with their production. Owing to their solubility in water the sizes may be readily removed by scouring e.g. in an aqueous soap solution, or very dilute alkaline solutions. Specification 210,266, [Class 2 (ii), Cellulose &c.], is referred to.ALSO:Yarns, threads, fabrics, and other textile materials are sized with carboxylic esters of cellulose or degraded cellulose containing ester radicles having as substituents carboxyl or hydroxyl groups or both. The sizing is preferably done with aqueous solutions of the cellulose carboxylic esters capable of yielding films on evaporating the aqueous media. The yarn &c. may be treated in hank form, or may be passed continuously through the solutions and subsequently dried. Artificial filaments may be sized continuously with their production. Owing to their solubility in water, the sizes may be readily removed by scouring, e.g. in an aqueous soap solution, or very dilute alkaline solutions.
