313,486. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., (Assignees of Clifford, A. M.). June 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Drawings to Specification. Naphthalene derivatives.-In the preparation of naphthoquinone anils the following operations are effected :-1-nitroso-2-naphthol is treated with sodium bisulphite to yield 1-amino-2-naphthol- 4-sulphonic acid, which is oxidized by nitric acid to 1.2-naphthoquinone-4-sulphonic acid.. The potassium salt of this substance on treatment with one and two molecules of aniline yields respectively 2-hydroxy- and 2-anilido-derivatives of 1- naphthoquinone-4-anil. The latter derivative on reduction with hydrosulphite is converted into 1- bydroxy-2.4-dianilidonaphthalene which is easily reoxidized to the anil. These products are antiagers for rubber.
