Abstract

The process of the parent Specification is modified by substituting for the methylene-dianilido-o-oxyaryl carboxylic acids used therein, methylene disalicylamide or a homologue or derivative thereof; nitro-and chloro-derivatives are mentioned. According to examples:-salicylamide is condensed with formaldehyde in concentrated sulphuric acid and oxidized, by sodium nitrite, together with salicylic acid, o-cresotinic acid, or m-chlorosalicylic acid (from m-chlorphenol); o-cresotinic amide may be similarly condensed with formaldehyde and oxidized together with salicylic or o-cresotinic acid. The products printed or dyed on chrome mordanted cotton yield garnet shades, yellower and faster to washing and chlorine than those of the parent Specification.
