Abstract

A vat dye giving greenish-blue shades on cotton is obtained by treating the oxidation product of dibenzanthrone with dimethyl sulphate. The product may be purified by crystallization from nitrobenzene, or by treating with sodium chlorate and hydrochloric acid solution, or by forming and dissociating its sulphate; it appears to be a dimethoxydibenzanthrone.
