Abstract

292,904. Newport Co., (Assignees of Gubelmann, I., Oesch, J. B, and Havas, E.). June 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Thioindigo series. - 4: 4<1>-dimethyl-6 : 6<1>-dichlorthioindigo is treated in concentrated sulphuric acid solution with such an amount of a brominating agent, that less than 2 atoms of bromine are introduced. In an example, 4: 4'-dimethyl-6 : 6<1>-dichlorthioindigo is dissolved in sulphuric monohydrate and sufficient bromine added at ordinary temperature to give the monobrom derivative. It dyes cotton a red colour from a yellow vat. An increase in the concentration of the solvent acid facilitates the bromination. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the production of the dibrom-4 : 4<1>-dimethyl-6 : 6<1>-dichlorthioindigo. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
