Abstract

Pyranthrone is brominated by suspending in a substantially non-reactive solvent, and mixing with an equivalent quantity of bromine in the presence of chlorine under pressure. According to examples, dibrom-pyranthrone is obtained by treating pyranthrone with bromine in an atmosphere of chlorine in sulphuric acid, dichlorobenzene, or nitrobenzene with or without the presence of iodine. The products may be purified by dilution of a sulphuric acid solution. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the bromination of saturated organic compounds such as benzene and anthraquinone. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
