Abstract
Blue products are obtained by brominating in chlorsulphonic acid, alone or mixed with sulphuric acid, products, stated to be dianthrone ethylenes, obtained according to Specification 299,972, [Class 2 (iii)], by acting with alkaline condensing agents on the reaction products of anthrones and glyoxal. Halogen carriers, e.g. iodine or sulphur halide, may be used. By treatment with acid condensing agents, e.g. sulphuric acid or aluminium chloride, or simply by heating in high-boiling solvents such as nitrobenzene, acedianthrones may be obtained. Examples describe the application of the process to the products obtained from anthrone-, 2-chloranthrone, 2.6-dichloranthrone, or 2-methylanthrone.ALSO:Blue products are obtained by brominating in chlorsulphonic acid, alone or mixed with sulphuric acid, products stated to be dianthrone ethylenes, obtained according to Specification 299,972, [Class 2 (iii)], by acting with alkaline condensing agents on the reaction products of anthrones and glyoxal.
