Abstract

When the process described in the parent Specification of chlorinating aromatic amines as hydrochlorides in an indifferent liquid but in absence of moisture is applied to amines containing negative substituents (including unsubstituted aminoanthraquinones) the preliminary conversion into hydrochlorides is unnecessary. Examples are given of the production of an octochloro body by chlorinating 3-chlor- or 2 : 5-dichloraniline in chlorobenzene solution, and of the chlorination in the same manner of 1-chlor- or 1 : 3-dichlor-2-naphthylamine and a - or b -aminoanthraquinone; the products are identical with those obtained according to the parent Specification. Specification 20718/00 is referred to.
