Abstract

Thiazolanthrone-sulphones are obtained by treating thiazolanthrones and nuclear substitution products thereof with suitable oxidants in an acid medium. According to examples (1) thiazolanthrone, 2-methyl thiazolanthrone and 1 : 5 dithiazolanthrone are treated with hydrogen peroxide in glacial acetic acid, and (2) thiazolanthrone-2-carboxylic acid is treated with chromic acid in glacial acetic acid, and (3) 5-chlorothiazolanthrone is treated with chlorine in dilute acetic acid, to give the corresponding thiazolanthrone sulphones. 5-Chlorthiazolanthrone is obtained from the corresponding 5-amino body by Sandmeyer's reaction.
