Abstract

Dyes are made from 1-aminoanthraquinones having a free 2-position and containing an aryloxy residue in the 3,4,5,6,7, or 8-position by condensing with a Bz. 1-halogenbenzanthrone, followed by treatment with sulphonating agents. The products dye wool, silk, tussore, and superpolyamides orange to brown shades. In examples, Bz. 1-brombenzanthrone is condensed with the following in one of the usual solvents in presence of sodium carbonate or potassium acetate and cuprous chloride, followed by treatment with oleum and sulphuric acid monohydrate: (1) 1-amino- or 8-phenoxyanthraquinone; (2) 1-amino-3-(41-methyl)-phenoxyanthraquinone; (3) 1-amino-3 or 8-p-tert.-butyl or 3-p-sec.-amyl phenoxyanthraquinone; (4) 1-amino-3, 5, 6, 7, or 8-p-tert.-amylphenoxyanthraquinone; (5) 1-amino-3 or 5 - p - isooctylphenoxyanthraquinone; (6) 1-amino - 4 - p - tert. - amylphenoxyanthraquinone; (7) 1-amino-5-(21-, 31-, or 41-methyl)-phenoxyanthraquinone or the corresponding 21,41-, 21,51-, 21,61- or 31,51-dimethyl bodies; (8) 1 - amino - 5 - (21,41,61 - trimethyl) - phenoxy - anthraquinone; (9) 1 - amino - 5 - (21)-naphthoxy - anthraquinone; (10) 1 - amino - 5-(p - phenyl) - phenoxyanthraquinone; (11) 1-amino - 8 - (31 or 41 - methyl) - phenoxyanthraquinone; (12) 1 - amino - 6 - chlor - 7 - phenoxyanthraquinone or its derivatives substituted in p-position of the phenoxy group by methyl, ethyl, isopropyl, tert.-butyl, or tert-amyl. The 1-amino-3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8-aryloxyanthraquinones employed above are obtained by heating halogenated or nitrated aminoanthraquinones with phenols in presence of acid binding agents.
