Abstract

Anthraquinone derivatives which are suitable for dyeing acetate artificial silk are obtained by treating 1 - amino - 2 - alkoxy - 4 - halogen-anthraquinones in the presence of boric acid with concentrated or fuming sulphuric acid to replace the halogen atom by hydroxyl without any substantial sulphonation. In examples 1 - amino - 2 - methoxy - 4 - chloranthraquinone is treated with a mixture of boric acid and concentrated sulphuric acid or oleum or 1 - amino - 2 - methoxy - 4 - bromanthraquinone with a mixture of boric acid and concentrated sulphuric acid to obtain a dyestuff dyeing acetate silk fast yellowish rose shades. 1 - Amino - 2 - methoxy - 4 - chloranthraquinone is obtained by chlorinating 1-amino-2-methoxy-anthraquinone in nitro benzene with sulphuryl chloride. 1 - Amino - 2 - methoxy - 4 - bromanthraquinone is obtained by brominating 1-amino-2-methoxy-anthraquinone in nitro benzene.
