Abstract

276,023. Geigy Akt.-Ges., J. R. Aug. 16, 1926, [Convention date]. Dye preparations.-Stable preparations of leuco compounds of vat dyes are made by intimately mixing the dye with a dihydric alcohol or with an aldehyde, converting into the leuco compound by means of hydrosulphite in presence of alkali, and drying the product. The products are readily soluble in water and may be used directly for dyeing or printing. In an example, Tinon scarlet G extra is pasted with ethylene glycol and caustic soda solution and reduced with sodium hydrosulphite; sodium sulphate is then added and the mixture evaporated to dryness. In the manufacture of a preparation suitable for printing, sodium sulphoricinoleate is substituted for sodium sulphate. Other vat dyes may replace the dye used in the example, and propylene glycol, ethylene thiodiglycol or formaldehyde may replace the ethylene glycol. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the use of other reducing agents in place of hydrosulphite, sodium sulphide being specified. Indigo, thioindigo, and anthraquinone dyes are also mentioned as vat dyes suitable for treatment by the process of the invention. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
