261,400. I. G. Farbenindusrtie Akt.- Ges., (Assignees of Farbwerke vorm. Meister, Lucius, & Br³ning). Nov. 13, 1925, [Convention date]. Bz-Methylbenzanthrones. - An anthranol, an oxanthranol, or an anthrone, or a homologue or substitution product of one of them, is condensed with crotonealdehyde in the presence of sulphuric acid but in the absence of an oxidizing agent. According to an example anthrone is condensed with crotonic aldehyde in presence of sulphuric acid and glacial acetic acid; the Bz-methylbenzanthrone obtained is purified by treatment with alkaline hydrosulphite, sublimation, and recrystallization.
