Abstract
287,050. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. March 12, 1927, [Convention date]. Benzanthrone derivatives.-Vat dyes, which are probably 4 : 5 : 8 : 9-dibenzpyrene-3 : 10-quinones are obtained by treating 2-aroylbenzanthrones with a condensing agent, preferably aluminium chloride, in the presence or absence of a diluent and with or without the introduction of oxygen or air. The 2-aroylbenzanthrones are obtained from benzanthrone-2-carboxylic acid (example 2' of Specification 277.670) by converting it into its chloride and condensing the latter with an aromatic hydrocarbon or the like. In an example 2-benzoylbenzanthrone is heated with sodiumaluminium chloride; the product dyes cotton from an orange-yellow vat intense yellowish-red tints. Similar products are obtained from other 2- aroylbenzanthrones, e.g. from 2-p-brombenzoyl-, 2-p-toluyl- and 2-alpha-naphthoyl - benzanthrone. Specifications 205,502, 220,304 and 246,683 also are referred to.
