Abstract
312,687. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. May 31, 1928, [Convention date]. Cellulose xanthates.-Viscose silk having a matt silk-like lustre is prepared by emulsifying in the viscose one or more organic bases, other than aniline, which are more or less insoluble in water and are converted in the acid spinning bath into compounds more or less soluble in water, so that they are removed more or less completely from the spun threads. Suitable bases are, for example, quinoline, ethylaniline, dimethylaniline, or toluidine. Crude fractions may be used instead of the pure bases. The base or bases may be added at any suitable stage in the manufacture of the viscose, for example they may be added to the carbon bisulphide or the cellulose xanthate or to the viscose before it is spun. An emulsifying agent may be used and any suitable mixing device to obtain a uniform distribution of the added substance. The proportion of the organic base added may be varied within wide limits according to the degree of diminished lustre required, but must not be less than about 0.5 per cent of the viscose; for example, there may be added 1.5 per cent of quinoline or 1-2 per cent of commercial ethylaniline. Specification 2149/12 is referred to.
