Abstract
312,637. Junkers, H. May 29, 1928, [Convention date]. Clutches and speed-varying mechanism-A hydraulic clutch has means for controlling the suction and pressure pipes with or without means for controlling the admission of air, said means comprising a single valve member for opening or closing openings in the desired sequence. In the form diagrammatically shown in Fig. 1, liquid passes to the clutch from a tank 20 through a cooler 21, control valve A and passage 10, and is returned through a passage 12 and control valve C. Air may 'be admitted through a valve B, escapes valves 28, 54 are provided, a pump 42 continuously delivers a small quantity of liquid to the clutch and to lubricating points, and a pump 49 returns liquid from a sump 40 to the tank 20. When the clutch is to act without slip, the valve A is opened and the valves B, C are closed. To increase slip, the valve is gradually opened and subsequently the valve A gradually closed. The valves A, B, C are constituted either by a single rotary valve 81, Fig. 6, or by a single piston valve. In the latter case, the valve may comprise parts 61', Fig. 4, with a lost-motion connection between them, the part 64 being an extension 65 adapted to enter a chamber 69 and thus limit the rate of closing the part 64. A rotary air-cooled liquid tank may be employed as shown in Fig. 9. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the clutch may be regulated by a valve in either the pressure or suction pipe, the other pipe being of small bore or provided with a small throttle aperture. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
