Abstract

Sleeve couplings.-The outer strands d of a pair of stranded cables a, b, Fig. 6, to be joined are cut away and the reduced portions e fitted into a connecting-sleeve h, Fig. 7, having an external diameter equal to that of the cables. After cutting back the outer strands d solder is run into the cable end and the outer layer is then bevelled by a special tool, Fig. 3, having a socket f for the strands e and a handle g for turning it. The sleeve has its bore tapered at each end h<2> to fit the bevel. If two cables of different sizes are connected the sleeve tapers in external diameter, each end being the same size as the cable connected thereto. Solder is run in through an opening k to finish the joint.
