484,505. Sleeve couplings ; casting joints. BEAVER, C. J., DAVEY, E. L., and GLOVER & CO., Ltd., W. T. Dec. 4, 1936, No. 33309. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A split sleeve 1 for joining cables is furnished with reduced ends 4 and is completed by a pair of end caps 5 recessed at 7 to fit over the portions 4 and form tapering surfaces to give smooth transition between the diameter of the cable core and that of the sleeve 1. The caps also hold the sleeve in place and close the ends of the slot 2 to prevent escape of the solder when the sleeve is being filled. A groove 3 formed in the sleeve 1 opposite to the slot 2 facilitates opening of the sleeve to pass it over the abutting cable ends.
