Abstract

472,582. Casting joints. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 23, 1937, No. 5435. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1936. [Class 83 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVI] Connection is made between an aluminium conductor 1 and a copper or brass terminal 2 by fusing the aluminium and immersing therein a shank 6 on the terminal. The shank may be coated with layers of tin and aluminium solder and may be in the form of a straight rod, an open socket, a shaped peg or pegs, or a closed socket into which the aluminium conductor is inserted. The aluminium is melted in a sleeve 5 of tin plate &c. applied to the cable end, and liquid aluminium may be added by melting a wire held above the sleeve. Slag is removed by stirring with a steel wire. The sleeve may be removed when the joint has solidified.
