Abstract

775,648. Soldering. SVENSKA AKTIEBOLAGET GASACCUMULATOR. Jan. 5, 1955 [July 3, 1954], No. 310/55. Class 83 (4). A pin or fitting 1, Fig. 1, provided, at the part to be fused in an electric arc forming an attachment, with two or more portions 2, 3 of solid fusible metal having different fusing points. The portion 2 is of more readily fusible metal, such as soft or hard silver solder or welding bronze while the portion 3 is of less readily fusible metal, such as copper, brass or copper and zinc alloy. In Fig. 3, the portion 3 is applied as a ring around a central portion 2 while in Fig. 5 the latter portion is in two parts; a central portion disposed in a cavity in the portion 3 and a cap portion enclosing a quantity of flux 4. The portion 2 may be in the form of a flanged peg with an end portion projecting through an aperture in a dome-shaped portion 3, the space between the two portions being filled with flux. Alternatively, the portion 2 may consist of a conical cap to fit over a disc-shaped portion 3 or the portion 2 may include a main part and a cap to provide a cavity for flux. The pin or fitting is held in an electric arc soldering or welding gun and an arc struck with the member to which attachment is to be made to fuse the portions 2 and 3 which form a union with the member when the current has been cut off. The portion 3 delays fusion so that the member is adequately heated. The portion 2 may be silver solder of the following composition: silver 45 per cent, copper 19 per cent, zinc 16 per cent, cadmium 20 per cent. The pin or fitting, which may be in the form of a clip for an electric cable, may be of iron, steel, copper or brass. Specifications 681,586, 775,649 and 775,650 are referred to.
