Abstract

311,380. Soc. Anon. Ammortizzatori. May 10, 1928, [Convention date]. Vibration-dampers. - Apparatus in which two relatively movable sets of oscillating friction discs operated by arms are pressed together by cams in such a way that the pressure increases steadily as the discs move in either direction away from a central position, is provided with means for adjusting the angular relation between one of the arms and the corresponding cams. In the construction shown in Figs. 3, 7 and 8, arms a and b connected respectively to the frame and axle of a vehicle are formed with discshaped ends pivoted together and separated by discs c of frictional material. Base plates i, n are provided with studs k, w which engage respectively with holes in the outer friction discs on the arms b, a. The plate u engages a square part q on a cone e which is locked frictionally in the socket member d when the nut p is tightened up on the screwed spindle o projecting from the end of the cone e. The nut p then bears on a plate n which engages a shoulder in the socket member d. The angle between the arms a, b where the cams h, g engage may be altered by slacking the nut p and re-engaging the cone e and the socket m which it fits in a new position. The flange f of the socket member d is formed with two diametrically opposed cam grooves g which engage similar projections h on the base plate i. The base plates and discs are forced together by tightening up the nut s on to the end plate y and rubber ring x. When the arms a, b move angularly in either direction away from the position in which the cam projection h and grooves g engage, the projections h ride up on to the flat part of the flange f, thus compressing the rubber ring x and steadily increasing the pressure between the friction members.
