Abstract

Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and helical springs. -Rods e, Figs. 1 and 2, pivoted to the hub are provided with outer pivoted ends sliding radially in sockets g in the rigid rim h. Surrounding each rod is a helical spring the outer end of which bears in a socket in a metal plate k bolted to the rim. The inner end of the spring bears on a collar d<2> formed on a block d. The block has a square projection a<1> seated in a recess in a flat side of the hexagonal hub. A detachable cheek a<2> closes these recesses laterally. The rod e is pivoted to cheeks d<1> formed on the block, and two cheeks e<3> formed on the sliding part e<4>. The springs are stiffened to resist lateral forces by forming the rod with webs e<5>, or with thickenings, which fit inside the springs. The springs are inserted in compression and may be adjustable. Two series of springs &c. may be arranged side by side.
