Abstract

300,746. Marks, E. C. R., (Hall Manufacturing Co.). Sept. 26, 1927. Round holes, enlarging and trueing; rotating-tool apparatus.-A device for trueing cylinder bores consists of a body 1 having a central aperture 2 and bosses 3 to which are pivoted arms 5 carrying abrasive members 6. The arms are pressed outwards, to press the members 6 against the cylinder wall, by cones 11 on a shaft 10, the cones engaging complementary surfaces on the arms 5. The shaft 10 has thereon a driving-member 15 and carries a screwed sleeve 16 which, on engagement with a head 8 secured to the body 1, lifts the shaft 10 and moves the arms 5 outwards; resilient pressure of the members 6 against the cylinder wall may be obtained by unscrewing the sleeve 16 from contact with the head 8, and applying compression to a spring 21 by means of a collar 20 screwing on the sleeve. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the head 8 is replaced by a tubular member in which the spring is housed, compression being applied to the spring by a sleeve screwing into the tubular member; the cones in this construction have their apices downwards. In a further modification, a second sleeve is employed, whereby resilient pressure or positive pressure may be applied to the abrasive members.
