Abstract

626,316. Re-treading tyres. SIMON, Ltd., H., and LETT, G. B. Aug. 12, 1946, No. 23815. [Class 87 (ii)] Apparatus for retreading a tyre comprises a tread ring a, two shoulder matrices beach having inner surfaces of the form of a frustum of a cone, means for ,heating the matrices and the tread ring, and adjustable means for positioning the matrices on a common axis with and in contact with a tyre d and its tread ring. The matrices may be positioned by mounting them on press parts h, g. The tyre is centred by a sleeve l which is fixed to a bush k on the lower press part g, and engages in a collar f<SP>1</SP> on the tyre rim f. Pressure is applied to the tyre by means of a screw i which works in the bush k. The press part h may have a counterweight h<SP>3</SP>. The tread ring a, which is fixed on the tyre before it is positioned between the matrices, may be flexible or non-flexible and may be built up from segments secured together. The ring may have strengthening ribs a<SP>3</SP>. The ring may be of a radius slightly smaller than that of the tyre to be retreaded. The ring may be flat or curved in section.
