929,777. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Oct. 26, 1959 [Nov. 10, 1958], No. 35962/58. Class 144 (1). A pneumatic tyre carcase 14 is shaped from flat-band form to toroidal form by positioning it coaxially about a shaft 3 with its beads 15 seated on cylindrical bead-locating rings 7 which are slidably and air-tightly mounted one on each end of the shaft 3, moving the rings 7 symmetrically towards each other on the shaft 3 by means of flanges sleeves 1 which bear one against each ring 7 and have opposite-hand screw-threaded engagement with the ends of the shaft 3 for mutual approach and separation on appropriate rotation of the shaft, simultaneously applying radially outward pressure to the carcase throughout its whole periphery by means of pressure air introduced through an inlet 9 in one of the rings 7, and progressively constraining the side regions of the carcase by means of radial flanges 8 on the rings 7 to ensure symmetrical shaping. As shown the carcase is shaped coaxially within a mould ring 12 which carries a tread ring 17 and an inextensible breaker 18, the crown region 16 of the carcase being thereby consolidated to the breaker on shaping.
