Abstract

Separators.-Apparatus for separating fat and other material from air or other gases comprises means for drawing off the mixture laterally from opposite sides of a space in which the mixture is formed, the mixture then encountering in another chamber baffles which retain the fat &c. Fig. 2 shows an elevation of the apparatus in which a mixture of fat and air is produced in a chamber 4 by means of a series of fat-spraying nozzles 5 used for dressing cake tins, which pass through the chamber at the point 6. The fat-laden air is withdrawn laterally from the chamber 4 through ducts 2, 3, and is led into a chamber 7 provided with baffles 8 arranged to produce a tortuous passage as shown in Fig. 1. The baffles retain the fat, which is kept in a molten state by a hot water jacket 9 and collects at the bottom of the chamber, from which it can be withdrawn through a cock 10. The air escapes through a port 10 . An opening 12 between the chambers 4, 7 enables any fat not drawn through the ducts 2, 3 to fall directly into the chamber 7.
