Abstract
310,987. Boys, C. V. Jan. 6, 1928. Shaft couplings.-The driving force to the escapement wheel of clockwork mechanism is maintained constant by a frictional powerabsorbing transmission device between the disturbed driving force and the scape wheel, this device absorbing all power in excess of that required to operate the scape wheel. The driving force is transmitted by gearing 1, 2, 3 and collar 5 to one end of a spring 6 the other end of which is attached to the scape wheel 8. When the power becomes excessive the spring opens and rubs against the inside of a cylinder 9 which is prevented from rotating by an integral arm 10 bearing against the shaft 1. To vary the maximum amount of force transmitted to the wheel 8 the cylinder 9 may be adjustable in diameter, or the spring and cylinder may taper slightly and be adjustable axially of one another.
