537,697. Slipping couplings. ROTHERHAM & SONS, Ltd., and LITCHFIELD, S. E. March 2, 1940, No. 3938. [Class 80 (ii)] In a slipping coupling for use with a time - delay mechanism, such as an escapement or a brake, a gear-wheel 14 on the driven shaft 21 is recessed to accommodate a freely mounted friction-disc 19 and a pressure-plate 20, which abuts against a shoulder 23 on the shaft. The parts are clamped together by a nut 24 on the shaft, preferably acting through a spring washer. The nut is mounted in a recess in a hub 26 of the gear 14, by which the gear is journalled in the casing of the device. The presser-plate 20 is driven through ratchet-mechanism 28 from a pinion 13 rotated by a rack.
