[Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXVI] A wheel a having an extended hub a<1> is loosely mounted on an axle b secured in a fork c ; the shaft of a motor g, Fig. 1, carries a worm e engaging a worm wheel d, Fig. 3, loosely mounted on the hub a<1> and having an extension i to which is secured one end of an internally lined steel band j wound helically around a pulley k keyed to the hub a<1>; the other end of the band is secured to a plate l freely mounted on the hub of the pulley k. A spring m bearing against a member n screwed on the hub a<1> forces, through the intermediary of a sleeve o, the plate l into frictional engagement with the pulley k. Thus when the worm wheel d rotates the band j is tightened on the pulley k and effects the drive of the wheel ; to stop the drive, the sleeve o is withdrawn by a disengaging fork not shown. The worm wheel d is enclosed in a casing f which carries the motor g, and is connected by elastic arms h to the fork, so that the motor is capable of limited rocking movement about the axle, and is resiliently protected against shock.
