Abstract
310,082. Pullin, C. G., and Groom, S. L. Jan. 20, 1928. Securing together machine elements for the transmission of rotary motion.-Fine angular adjustments of the timing-mechanism of cams or other rotating members, particularly of internalcombustion engines, are obtained by the use of independent and relatively coarse adjustments provided between two or more gears and the members to which they are connected. The driving-pinion 2 is adjustably connected by dogs 5 to a, sleeve 7, which is also adjustably mounted on the crank shaft 3 by splines 8. Further, the driven gear 13 has an adjustable connection to the cam 11, comprising a pin ll<p> on the cam engaging one of a series of holes 15 in the gear 13. The number of dogs 5, splines 8, and holes 15 is chosen so as not to be a multiple or submultiple of the number of teeth in the gear with which they are used. Also, the number of dogs is one or more or less than the number of splines. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller fo Specification 287,882.
