Abstract

309,933. Griffiths, A. W. Jan. 18, 1928. Radial cylinder engines: revolving-cylinder engines.-A revolving-cylinder engine comprises a disc A mounted on a driving-shaft B and provided with peripheral cut out parts C which house the cylinders which are secured to the edge of the disc by flanges E. The piston-rods slide in radial slots F in the disc and carry crossheads G<1> with pins G<2> engaging annular connecting- rods H mounted on stationary eccentrics on the casing Steam is supplied to a chamber K<1> and passes through pipes M to a chamber M<1> on one side of the disc C. An exhaust chamber N<1> on the other side is connected to discharge pipes N. The pipes N, N are mounted in the shaft bearings. The chambers M<1>, N<1> communicate with circular steam and exhaust pipes M<3>, N<3> respectively connected to each valve chest by pipes. The distributing valves are actuated by stationary, adjustable eccentrics S, Fig. 1, or they may be actuated by the piston-rods through pivoted slotted bars X, Fig. 2. A number of groups of cylinders may be adapted for compound working.
