Abstract

309,685. Hemmingsen, T. V. March 2, 1928. Movable - abutment type; back-pressure reducing.-A rotory motor of the toothed drum or " Roots'-blower " type is driven by the exhaust of an internal - combustion engine, and drives a blower to supply the air charge. The blower may be of the same design as the motor. As shown, two inter-meshing wheels 4, 5 are housed in a casing 1 formed with a curved inlet and outlet 10, 11. On the outlet side grooves 13, 14 of gradually increasing crosssection are formed, to reduce the noise due to emission of fluid to the exhaust pipe. Recesses 15, 16 are formed in the side walls of the casing; these recesses connect the spaces d formed in turn between one of the teeth on one wheel and the corresponding recess in the other to the main outlet and inlet chambers. The recess 15 prevents the return of a large amount of gas from the outlet side to the inlet side. The grooves 13, 14 may be made in the sides of the casing.
