Abstract

346,973. Rotary internal-combustion engines. NORTHEY, A. J., Rilston, Springfield Road, Parkstone, Dorset. March 31, 1930, No. 10234. Convention date, May 29, 1929. [Class 110 (ii).] A rotary internal - combustion engine comprising toothed rotors F, F<1>, each having a projection J and a recess K which mesh, is constructed in three stages, the centre one A, Fig. 1, being a compresser which feeds working- fluid drawn from a carburetter by way of a non- return valve T<1> through passages C, C\ to combustion engines B, B<1>, where it is fired by plugs V. The rotors are all keyed to two shafts G, G\ and the projections J on the rotors in chambers B, B<1>, are relatively displaced to produce a more even torque on shafts G, G<1>, which by means of pinions S externally and internally drive a wheel S<1> on a lay-shaft S<2>. A byepass R from the high pressure side to the low pressure side of the compressor A is controlled by a regulating valve R<1>. Each rotor on shaft G1 has two side discs M attached to it, having ports N which co-operate with ports P, P<1> on the end of passages C, C<1>, for admitting the working fluid. The side discs M may be dispensed with and replaced by non-return valves. Packing Q is provided on the projections and rotors.
