Abstract
309,558. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges. April 12, 1928, [Convention date]. Right to Patent relinquished. Yarns, treating with liquids.-Artificial silk prepared from organic acid esters of cellulose, for example acetate silk, is improved by charging the finished silk with acetic acid, subjecting it to stretching and removing the acid while maintaining and increasing the tension. Threads treated in this manner possess greatly increased dry and wet tenacities. The treatment can be applied to twisted or untwisted skeins or finished fabrics. In an example, a skein of acetate silk made by the dry spinning process is impregnated with 40 per cent acetic acid; stretched to three times its original length; washed, whilst maintaining or increasing the tension, with acetic acid of increasing dilution, and finally with water, and then dried in the customary manner. Specification 277,089 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to combining the process with the spinning process, and also to the employment of other organic acids, for example formic or propionic acids or mixtures of such organic acids. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
