Abstract
308,593. Kadenacy, M. March 23, 1928, [Convention date]. -Two - stroke - cycle engines; exhaust pipes, fittings for. - Piston-controlled exhaust ports 8 are fitted with flap valves comprising semi-circular strips 9 fixed at their centre portions to abutments 10, 11, between which they operate. The space between the cylinder and the valves 9 is designed to be about equal to the volume, at atmospheric pressure, of the residual gases left in the cylinder after the exhaust is closed, that is between 0.5 and 0.1 of the cylinder volume. The inlet passage 5 may be fitted with a valve comprising a circular strip 17, Fig. 5, formed with internal arms 17<a> secured to the seating 15, deflectors 16, 18 being fitted on opposite sides of the valve. In a modification, the inlet is arranged in the cylinder head and is controlled by a poppet valve. Fig. 4 shows the application to an engine having two oppositely-moving pistons 3<a>, 3<b> so arranged that the latter closes the exhaust ports 8 while the inlet ports 6 are still open. The inlet passage 5 is fitted with flap valves 26 similar to the valves 9 in the exhaust passage. Specification 269,181 is referred to.
