Cutting-edges, shaping and treating. - A machine for grinding guillotine &c. knives consists of a support k for the knife, which lies horizontally during grinding, adjustable by worm gearing e to suit the angle of bevel of the knife, and a cup shaped grinding-wheel o carried by a vertical slaaft i in a head a. The head is traversed to and fro along the knife by a screw c driven in opposite directions by belt gearing from pulleys e on the end of a shaft carrying a long pulley f, the belts being moved on pulleys g on the screw by means of striking-gear operated by stops h which are engaged by the head a. The shaft i is driven from the pulley f by a belt running over jockey-pulleys j ; the blade rests, with the bevelled edge at the front of the machine, against a ridge p on the support k.
