Abstract

308,193. Klinger, R. March 19, 1928, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Acts]. Piston valves; indicating opening.-A piston stop valve of the type made fluid-tight by elastic packing rings 6, 7, Figs. 1 and 2, is provided with a loose metal ring 14 below the lower packing ring 7, the inner diameter of the ring 14 being smaller than the bore 15 of the casing 1, thereby providing a shoulder serving as an abutment for an extracting tool or device 18 adapted to remove the renewable parts of the packing. The extracting device 18 comprises spring-operated sections or claws 19 which, after introduction of the extracting tool 18, as shown in Fig. 2, engage under the ring 14. A screw 17 carried by a stirrupshaped member 29 supported on the valve casing at 16 and secured by a screwed sleeve 10<a> serves to effect the removal of the packings. The condition of opening of the valve is indicated by grooves 12 in conjunction with one or more fingers 13 depending from the hand wheel 5.
