Abstract
307,588. Bullock, H. W., and Sowdon, T. R. Feb. 2, 1928. Applied by running axle or wheel; force-transmitting mechanism.-In a brake mechanism for motor vehicles the brakes at one end of the axles on the same side of the vehicle comprise floating shoes operably connected by Bowden wire or other flexible connections, to an intermediate part of which a tension is adapted to be applied. The turning tendency of the floating shoes actuates the brakes at the other end of the axle by means of flexible connections. The anchor discs carrying the shoes of the brakes b, e are free to rotate on the vehicle axle and carry levers r adapted to operate the brakes on the other ends of the axles by a cable 5 passing over a pulley 6 and Bowden wire respectively. The brakes b, e are applied by a Bowden wire m adapted to be tensioned by a grooved eccentric 9, having a pivot 10 and operated by a lever o. The pivot 10 is adjustable in a slot in a bracket 11. The wire m has a casing n provided with stops p on the anchor discs of the brakes b, e and stops q on the chassis.
