Abstract

295,883. Eccles Motor Caravans, Ltd., and Riley, W. J. Dec. 3, 1927. Actuated by relaxation of pull. - In brake mechanism for trailers operated on relaxation of pull, in which cushioning springs surround the draught bar, the spring r, Fig. 3, arranged between the front guide bearing c of the draughtbar and a shoulder n on the draught-bar, is stronger than the spring s behind, the shoulder so that the brakes are normally held applied by the draught bar when there is no tractive effort. Springs t, u shorter than the springs r, s take buffing shocks when springs t, u are compressed by movement of the draught-bar. The casing d may be dispensed with. The draught-bar may be of channel section within which the mechanism is mounted. In a further modification the control springs r, s are mounted between the shoulder n and washers surrounding the draughtbar and the buffing springs t, u are mounted between the washers and the bearings c. To allow the vehicles to be reversed the draught-bar is locked by a pin passing through holes in lugs projecting from the casing d and bearing against the lever by which the brakes are applied or a pin passing through holes in a bearing c and the draught-bar. The brake may be operated by a cable 4, Fig. 6, passing abound pulleys 5 on lugs 6 projecting from the casing d and over a pulley 7 on the end of the draught-bar. In a modification the cable passes over a pulley on a lug on the casing and is fixed to the end of the draught-bar.
